Declaring oneself a pirate by definition is declaring oneself to be an attacker of civilian or merchant shipping vessels. It's like flying a flag of being a bully who picks on anyone who can't defend themselves enough.

I won't say all pirates are the same or that they're all as evil as it comes, but I'm not going to give them any quarter either.

And Jack Sparrow and Blackbeard managed to find a way to pirate here despite the pointlessness of it.
